Castlebaldwin

Castlebaldwin is a village in County Sligo, Ireland and famous for the castle located outside the village. It was built in the 17th-century and is in fact regarded as house rather than a medieval castle. A fortified building is has gun slits in the walls and a machicolation over the door. The castle walls were constructed from stones sourced from a nunnery located near the village. Mortar to set the stones together was created from the blood of animals which was then mixed to sand. Carrowkeel Passage Tombs are located nearby are are known as some of the oldest tombs in Europe.
