Ballyfarnan
Ballyfarnan is a small County Roscommon town on the R284 rclose to the border with County Sligo. Kilronan Castle, which was a home to the Earl's of Kingston is located close to the village and now a popular destination hotel.
In Ballyfarnan the church has a chequered history as it was originally built in the 8th century by St. Ronan and was replaced in 1339 by Fergal O'Duigenan, then razed to the ground in 1340 and finally replaced four years later. Only a gable of this church still stands today. A vault in which Turlough O'Carolan was interred in 1738 lies close to that gable end.
