Dromahair
Dromahair is a quiet village on the River Bonet near the south-east shore of Lough Gill. It is surrounded by a picturesque and historic region which was once the territory of the warlike O' Rourkes. There is a nice riverside walk up to the ruins of Creevylea Abbey, a Franciscan Friary which was one of the last to be built in Ireland before the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII. There is also a lovely scenic drive from from Dromahair to Parkes Castle, along the shores of Lough Gill which is well worth experiencing.
