Bawnboy
Bawnboy is a scenic village to the West of County Cavan. the town is located in the middle of the Marble Arch Caves Geopark and the area has a variety of activities for families, and outdoor enthusiasts and people interested in all things geological and archaeological.
The area around Bawnboy is busy with anglers and walkers as Brackley and Templeport lakes offer good coarse fishing while Brackley Lake is also a popular swimming spot in summer months. Walking trails in the area include Swanlinbar, Killeshandra, Ballyconnell and Blacklion making it ideal for walking holidays.
Bawnboy also has a rich history of heritage and culture with St. Mogue's Island in Templeport Lake being an important monastic place during the middle ages. The island is believed to be the birthplace of St Mogue, a prominent early Irish saint and also has some early Christian monastic ruins and a graveyard. A place of pilgrimage for many centuries, the island is best viewed from the parish church of Templeport.
